AUSTIN, Texas – September 10, 2004 – Zilker Labs, Inc., today announced that it has been invited to join leading power supply and semiconductor manufacturers in a coalition formed by Artesyn Technologies. The initiative is focused on developing a new digital protocol, called Power Management Bus or PMBusTM, which will define an open architecture for power system control over an industry-standard serial bus.
“Artesyn formed this consortium of industry leaders so that we can work together to define a much-needed open communications standard in the challenging world of power systems control,” said Todd Hendrix, vice president of marketing and business development for Artesyn Technologies and the chairperson of the PMBus consortium. “We are pleased to have Zilker Labs join this effort and feel that their unique insights into digital power management and control at the board level will be a key element of the success of the PMBus protocol.”
Next generation power conversion solutions will be intelligent and offer programming, control, and real-time monitoring capabilities. By establishing an open industry-wide standard, the PMBus digital protocol will foster innovation and lead to multiple compatible sources for products, which is a key desire of OEMs. In addition to Zilker Labs and Artesyn, the consortium formed to define the PMbus standard includes Emerson’s Astec Power and semiconductor companies including Intersil Corporation, MicroChip Technology and Texas Instruments.
